I must admit I was on the fence about coming to Senegal cause I had never been to Africa because of my own skeptisms from everything from safety to lodging and everything in between, but after conducting research including watching previous LionHeart Initiative videos I decided to take the leap and must say it was one of the best experiences in my 45 years. I could not be more pleased with my trip to Senegal with the LionHeart Initiative. There is literally something there for everyone especially for the BJJ enthusiasts. I will be back next year because there are so many things I plan to do on my trip next year.

Some time has passed since I was in Senegal, but I still look back in amazement about how great the experience. A lot of hassle and trouble of being in a different country with different language was taken out of the equation, I was about to just focus on experiencing the country and seeing the form that Jiu-jitsu is taking there. It was great, and I want to go back.

I had pretty much no expectations of Senegal before I was coming but things will always still surprise you, my first visit to Senegal was one of the most beautiful experiences I’ve ever had. People were extremely warm, welcoming and helpful to the point of being extremely amazed every single time you meet somebody new. The food was also delicious from start to finish, beautifully, organically grown and prepared from scratch every single time. Now the Dakar BJJ Open itself, which was our initial main reason for coming to Senegal and like I said whilst I had no expectations I was still pleasantly surprised by how talented all the competitors were. The level of the Judo and wrestling in Dakar is amazing, which I knew before coming, and it works extremely well while transitioning to BJJ. I simply cannot wait till the next time when I step foot on African soil to train and compete once again. Big thanks to Lionheart Initiative for this opportunity.
